PostSubject: Clerics opposed to FRCN Act want to cover their wrongdoings –Bakare   Mon Jan 23 2017, 12:02

Contrary to the outcry of many Nigerians against the Financial Reporting Council of Nigeria (FRCN) Act 2011, the Serving Overseer of The Latter Rain Assembly, Pastor Tunde Bakare, has described as money launderers and Pentecostal charismatic rascals, clerics opposed to the act.
The FRCN Act 2011 forbids religious leaders like Imams and Pastors from positions such as chief priest, chief treasurer, and chief administrator of their organisations.
It stipulates that founders or leaders should not take on too many responsibilities in the organisation or have an indefinite term in the running of the organisation.
It was sequel to this law that Pastor Enoch Adeboye resigned his position as the National Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God in Nigeria.
His resignation witnessed outcry from church hierarchy across the country, which supposedly led to the sacking of the Executive Secretary of the FRCN, Jim Obazee and an order to put on hold the enforcement of the Act forthwith.
However, Bakare reacting on this issue during church service on Sunday lambasted clerics and church leaders who opposed the law.
He said,I can testify that the law was explained to kingpins in the church, but now you want to get away because you want to cover your iniquity. You won’t get away with it. You want to get away because you have laundered money, and you are now trying to cover your yansh.
“I am a trained lawyer, I have read the law. The law specifically mentioned Chief Imams and pastors, that they can have lifelong terms. But it says you cannot be chief priest, chief treasurer, and chief administrator.”
Insisting that the law was good for order and accountability in the church, Bakare said those opposing the law are “Pentecostal charismatic rascals” who are lawless.
“You don’t want to comply with the law, then why did you register under the law? It is a spirit of lawlessness and the anti-Christ because the anti-Christ is a lawless spirit. The fact that I am quiet doesn’t mean I am stupid. I don’t fight useless battles,” he said.
Nepotism is a common thing among many Nigerian churches and their founders who assign different church administrative positions to themselves and sometimes share same among their family members, friends and kinsmen.
Bakare, known for his fiery attacks on establishments, once ran for the post of Vice President alongside the current president, Muhammadu Buhari.
