Days after summoning and questioning Samsung group CEO Jay Y. Lee over ongoing graft probe involving President Park Geun-hye and her friend Choi Soon-sil, special prosecutors in South Korea have arrested the culture minister in connection with the probe.
According to reports, the minister Cho Yoon-sun was arrested for suspected involvement in drawing up a blacklist of artistCategoriess, writers and entertainers critical of President Park amid a graft scandal that led to her impeachment.
Cho who has offered to quit became the first sitting minister ever to be arrested according to the special prosecutor’s team investigating the scandal.
Seoul’s Central District Court said on Saturday in a text message to reporters that minister Cho was arrested because her crime had been “verified and there were concerns over destruction of evidence”.
